Depression can be caused by an imbalance in brain chemicals and/or issues with lifestyle and personal satisfaction. Often, people with depression can find it hard to identify a single cause in their life for the way they are feeling. Depression can feel like being in a black hole that it is very hard to climb out of.
Anxiety is a natural reaction to stress and allows us to deal with stressful situations. However, when anxiety appears to be triggered by simple everyday situations and begins to take over, it no longer helps us to cope and instead becomes overwhelming and a problem in itself. Feelings of anxiety are often triggered by situations that we perceive to be uncontrollable or unavoidable. They are often combined with panic attacks and the symptoms associated with them such as shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and nausea.
Anxiety and depression can occur together or individually and sometimes, it can be hard to identify which of these the sufferer is experiencing. This can lead to anger and frustration or feelings of inadequacy.
Counselling, Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy can help to ease anxiety by teaching the sufferer to recognize the onset of depression or an anxiety attack and to deal effectively with the symptoms. The situation that is creating the depression or anxiety can also be addressed, so that the sufferer is placed back in control and able to cope effectively with it. The sufferer can be helped to regain control of aspects of their life where they feel overwhelmed or unable to move forward.
